Miners record five top-six finishes at McKendree Invite

LEBANON, Ill. – Missouri S&T had six top-five finishes on Friday as it took part in the McKendree Invitational along with Saint Louis University and Oklahoma Christian at the McKendree Rec-Plex.

The Miners' highest finishes Friday came from Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton), who placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.97 seconds that was less than a second off the winning mark of 49.22 posted by McKendree's Patryk Rozenek and from Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West), who had a second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:08.92.

Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden/) had a fourth place showing in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:53.55, while S&T's 400-yard medley relay team of Clancy, Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West), Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) finished fourth in a time of 3:25.37.  Baxter was also fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.58, as was Jay Mercer (Kansas City, MO/Whitefield Academy) in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.50.

The Miners fell in all three dual meet competitions on Friday, losing 114-34 to McKendree, 82-75 to Saint Louis and 85-62 to Oklahoma Christian.

S&T's next competition is slated for Nov. 4 and 5 at the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
