9/22/2021 2:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – After pulling out a win in overtime last week, Missouri S&T's football team will look to win for the third straight time as it plays its final non-conference game of the 2021 season against Hillsdale in Hillsdale, Mich.  Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m., Central time.

The Miners emerged victorious in a back-and-forth affair with Wayne State (Mich.) last week, tying the game on a 40-yard field goal by Zach Glaess (Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek) as regulation time expired and winning it in overtime on a two-yard touchdown run by Aaron Moya (Canutillo, TX/Canutillo).  The game saw the teams combine for 1,174 yards of total offense, 804 of which came through the air.

Quarterback Luke Hertzler (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North), making his first career start, completed 21-of-35 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.  His top target, Breon Michel (Colorado Springs, CO/Vista Ridge), set a new school record with 234 receiving yards on his seven catches and had touchdown receptions covering 26, 54 and 70 yards to help him land the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week award.  Michel has 17 catches for a league-high 411 yards and seven touchdowns; he is the first Miner to record seven touchdowns receptions through the first three games of a season.

Josh Brown (Gainesville, FL/North Marion HS) has caught 10 passes for 139 yards, while Aundray Henley (Miami, FL/Flanagan) has 105 yards on his eight receptions.  Hertzler has thrown for 449 yards on the year as he has completed 61.2 percent of his throws, while Brennan Simms (Punta Gorda, FL/Charlotte) has completed 53.7 percent of his passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns.

Moya is pacing the ground game with 248 yards and has scored four touchdowns, while Josh Sanders (Maize, KS/Maize) has rushed for 187 yards and Gideon Niboh (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) has 145 as all three are ranked among the top nine in the GLVC in rushing this week.  Niboh also had a 93-yard kickoff runback for a score last week and was selected as the conference's Player of the Week on special teams.

Defensively, the Miners are led in tackles by linebacker Ben Straatmann (Washington, MO/Washington) with 26; he also has a team-high 4.5 tackles for a loss and had one and a half sacks in Saturday's win.  Justin Onwugbufor (Wichita, KS/Northwest) has recorded 20 tackles on the season, while Cameron Clemons (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran North) has 14 tackles and a league-high seven pass breakups.  Stefan Camplin (Raytown, MO/Raytown) had a key interception in the second half to thwart a Wayne State scoring opportunity, one of four interceptions by the Miners this season.

ABOUT HILLSDALE: The Chargers have dropped their first three games of the season, two of them to teams from the GLVC as they lost 35-31 to Indianapolis and 38-24 last Saturday at Truman State.  Hillsdale, picked to finish fifth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, has struggled to slow down opposing offenses in the last two weeks, allowing 412.3 yards per game after giving up 454 in the loss to UIndy -- including 270 on the ground to UIndy's Toriano Clinton -- and 473 last week at Truman.

Luke Keller and Jake Burger have split the duties at quarterback for the Chargers this season, withe Keller completing 50 percent of his throws for 409 yards and three touchdowns and Burger connecting on 58.3 percent of his tosses for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Keller is also Hillsdale's top rusher with 73 yards for a unit averaging only 71 rushing yards a game.

Redshirt freshman Isaac TeSlaa has caught 17 passes for 259 yards and a pair of touchdowns to pace the Chargers in the receiving department, while tight end Mike Harding has caught nine passes for 68 yards.  Austen Williams has two touchdown receptions among his five catches this season.

Linebacker Alex Anschutz leads the Hillsdale defense with 36 tackles on the season -- his 12 per game currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division II -- while strong safety Zach Herzog has been in on 31 stops.  The unit has made eight quarterbacks thus far, led by two apiece by John Pearson and Kyle Parran, while Jackson Gillock and Ryan Sellars have Hillsdale's interceptions.
