S&T Takes Down Jewell in Three Sets

LIBERTY, MO-The Miners picked up their second win of the season over William Jewell tonight collecting the 3-0 sweep over the Cardinals to move to 10-5 on the year.

WJC jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Miners to start set one, but a 10-1 run quickly gave S&T an 11-5 lead. They would extend their lead out to as much as 20-10 after kills from Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State), Shelby Ply (Rolla, Mo./Rolla), Jordan Burton (Olathe, Kansas/Olathe South Senior High), and a block from Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy).

S&T would end the set on a 4-1 run and took the 25-12 set one win after a kill from O'Boyle.

The Cardinals would make it tough for the Miners in the second set; after S&T pulled away from Jewell with a 12-5 lead, the Cardinals would go on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 13-13. S&T was able to pull away late in the set, but WJC fended off three Miner set points before a Cardinal error gave S&T the 25-22 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

It was all Missouri S&T in the final set. The Miners snatched a quick 8-1 lead and never looked back. S&T would get the 25-17 set three win off a block from Shelby Ply (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) and Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and take the 3-0 match win.
