Miners Face Tough Outing of Top-Ranked Lewis, Maryville in Final Tri-Match of Season

ROLLA, MO- The Miner volleyball team is on a hot streak, taking down two top-25 ranked teams in the last two weekends to keep receiving votes in the latest AVCA National Poll. S&T will face the ultimate challenge this season heading up to St. Louis for the weekend to face top-ranked Lewis University and Maryville University in their final tri-match of the season.

After taking down the Greyhounds of UIndy 3-2, the Miners stunned the Hawks of Quincy, who was ranked 23rd at the time, with a 3-1 match win.

The Miners front line would hold the Hawks offense to just .096 hitting with 13 blocks, seven of which were recorded by Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy). Their sweep last weekend moved the Miners to 8-4 for the season and make it 3 wins over top-25 teams this season.

For the season, Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) and Jordan Burton (Olathe, Kansas/Olathe South Senior High) had led the Miners with 281 combined kills while Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) has chipped in 104 kills in six matches played. Hannah Merjil (Bakersfield, CA/Garces Memorial) has been solid for S&T inn the setter's position, dishing out 333 assists and averaging 7.4 assists/set this season.

On the defensive side of the net, Meiko Pearson (Overland Park, Kansas/Blue Valley Northwest) has picked up a team-best 147 digs while Gannaway, Reed, and Lexi Netherlain (Sullivan, Ind./Sullivan) have recorded 79, 78, and 71 digs, respectively. Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) and Shelby Ply (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) have played big roles this season at the net, recording a combined 80 blocks this season with 17 of them being solo blocks.

Lewis (11-0, 11-0 GLVC) has yet to drop a match this season and has dropped just five sets all year. They are currently on a three-game sweep after taking down Quincy, William Jewell, and Lindenwood all in three sets.

For the season, six different Flyers' have recorded 60 kills or more with Amanda Greening leading the way with 92 kills. Haley Sobieralski has been the go-to for setting for Lewis with 275 assists in 11 matches.

On the defensive side, Jamie Poppen has led the way with 216 digs while Ava Venema and Caroline Stefanon have sent a combined 77.0 blocks back to their opponent's side.

Maryville (1-11, 1-11 GLVC) has struggled to find a rhythm this season, collecting their only win of the year against William Jewell back a couple of weekends back.

For the season, Hannah Scrum has been their main source of hitting with 123 kills while Abbie Schnell leads the team with 342 assists.
