ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will wrap up a three-game homestand this weekend as it entertains Maryville and Lindenwood in Great Lakes Valley Conference contests at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners will take on the nationally-ranked Saints Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by their matchup on Sunday with Lindenwood that will get underway at 2:30 p.m.
Missouri S&T comes into Friday's match at 2-2-1 after coming away with a 1-0 overtime win over Drury in its only action last week.
Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria) scored in the third minute of overtime off an assist from
Grant Polman (Wentzville, MO/Holt) to give the Miners the win.
That victory, coupled with the results around the GLVC on Sunday, currently has the Miners in a tie for eighth place in the conference standings with Southwest Baptist.
Jorgensen is one of four Miners who have scored goals thus far in the 2021 spring season, along with
Dario Rossell (Madrid, Spain/IES Lazaro Cardenas),
Luan Barbosa (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio SESI) and
Paal Benum (Trondheim, Norway/Byaasen Videregaadende). Meanwhile, S&T goalkeepers
Michael Sallee (Springfield, MO/Catholic) and
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central) have a combined goals against average of 0.75, with Sallee's at 0.71 and Joseph's at 0.79 after he recorded a shutout against Drury.
The Miner defense will be tested by the fifth-ranked Saints, who are 6-0 on the season and possess the league's highest scoring team, as the Saints have scored 18 goals in those six contests and least two in five of those six games. Mirza Hasecic has been named as the GLVC's player of the week in each of the last two weeks and has scored an NCAA Division II-high nine goals.
Cedric Sengl has scored three times and has added two assists, while five other Saints have tallied goals thus far. In goal, Liam Walraven has seen the bulk of the action and has three shutouts to go along with a 0.55 goals against average.
Lindenwood will take a 2-4 record into a Friday evening contest at Drury after splitting a pair of games last weekend. After knocking off Rockhurst 1-0 on a goal by Cooper Wilson, the Lions fell 2-1 to Southwest Baptist Sunday as SBU scored twice in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit.
Gabriel Herrera has two goals to lead the Lions while four others have scored this season. Jasko Smajic and JD Ellis have split time in goal, with Ellis holding a goals against average of 1.04 with 19 saves.
