Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | John Kean, Sports Information Director

Second half cold stretch proves costly for Miners in loss to Drury

ROLLA, Mo. – After overcoming a seven-point halftime deficit to take the lead, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team fell victim to a cold shooting stretch in the second half that allowed Drury to regain control of the contest and go on to a 63-53 win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers led 29-22 at the intermission, but the Miners outscored Drury 14-4 to begin the second half to take their first lead of the game.  A jumper by Yahmir Muhammad (Rockford, IL/Auburn) at the 13:56 mark gave S&T a 34-33 advantage, then a lay-in about a minute later by Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) extended the Miner lead to three.  Drury tied the game on a jumper by Allen Billinger before the Miners went back in front again on a put-back by freshman Kyle Bushman (Mount Vernon, MO/Mount Vernon) with 11:40 remaining.

A minute later, however, Billinger drained a three-pointer to put the Panthers into the lead for good and started a 20-4 run that gave Drury control of the contest.

During that stretch that lasted seven minutes, the Miners made just one of their six shots from the floor and also turned the ball over on four other possessions.

The Miners shot 50 percent from the field in the second half after making just 32 percent of their shots in the first 20 minutes, but also committed 18 turnovers as the Panthers – who turned the ball over just six times – outscored S&T 15-4 on points off turnovers.  S&T also had a 39-26 advantage on the boards, with Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) pulling down nine to go along with a game-high 13 points.

Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) also finished in double figures with 11 points, but was saddled with foul issues for much of the second half.

Tyler Clanton led Drury with 12 points, while Kamau Kinder had 11 and Conley Garrison, the reigning GLVC "Player of the Week" had 10 points but was just three-of-12 from the field.

The Miners will be on the road for two games next week in the St. Louis area, beginning with Thursday's 7:30 p.m. game against Maryville University.
