Miners take two of three dual meets at UIndy Quad

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T got a winning performance from Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) Saturday afternoon and won two of the three dual meet competitions as it concluded its weekend at the Indianapolis Quad.  The Miners defeated Lewis and Bellarmine in the dual meets, but lost to second-ranked Indianapolis.

Huffman earned his win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.82 and also added a second place showing later in the day in the 400-yard individual medley with a mark of 4:08.30.

Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.26 seconds and finished one spot ahead of Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) in the event, who posted a time of 50.72 seconds.  Josh Umrysh also had a second place showing in the 100-yard individual medley in 52.44 seconds as did Connor Wiedemeier in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.34; Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto) was third in that event in 1:56.63.

S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Becker, Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch), Taske and Marco Flores (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/SERAN Private Bilingual School) finished second in that event with a time of 3:06.33, while the Miners' team of Mark Cavanaugh (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista), Flores, Taske and Betts took third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:33.23.

S&T got a fourth place finish from Flores in the 100-IM in 54.16 seconds, while Daniel Matlock (Peoria, IL/Richwoods) finished fifth in 55.07.  Jay Mercer (Kansas City, MO/Whitefield Academy) also had a fifth place showing in the 200-breaststroke in 2:09.07 as did Cavanaugh in the 200-backstroke in 1:57.62.

Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) came in sixth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.05 and Sam Weber (Portage, MI/Portage Central) also finished sixth in the 200-backstroke in 2:00.94 along with Betts in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.92 seconds and Mercer in the 400-IM in 4:13.95.  Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) placed seventh in the 500-freestyle in 4:45.15 as did Nolan Fergus (Aurora, IL/Marmion Academy) in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.04 seconds and Matlock in the 400-IM in 4:19.48.

The Miners' next competition will take place beginning on Dec. 18 when they take part in the Delta State Christmas Invitational in Cleveland, Miss.
