11/5/2019 2:30:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – For the second time in three weeks, Missouri S&T's football team faces the challenge of playing the Great Lakes Valley Conference leader on the road as the Miners head to St. Charles, Mo., to face Lindenwood Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.

The Miners, 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the GLVC, snapped a two-game losing streak with a 62-0 victory over Southwest Baptist at Allgood-Bailey Stadium and now faces a Lindenwood squad – one that is also 6-3 on the year – a week following a 34-27 home win over eighth-ranked Indianapolis that moved the Lions into the lead in the conference standings.

In what will be the first meeting between the teams since 2013, Saturday's game will also feature all three of this week's conference players of the week, as Missouri S&T's Tershawn Wharton (University City, MO/University City) was named as the top defensive performer and kicker Ben Styron (Harrisonville, MO/Harrisonville) earned the special teams honors; Lindenwood quarterback Cade Brister was selected as the top offensive player from the past week.

ABOUT THE MINERS:  Missouri S&T rebounded from back-to-back losses with a resounding shutout win over Southwest Baptist Saturday, racking up 585 yards of total offense and holding the Bearcats to 272 as it recorded its first shutout in over three years.

Quarterback Brennan Simms (Punta Gorda, FL/Charlotte) completed 15-of-22 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns in the win, matching his career high for scoring passes in a game in the process.  On the season, the junior signalcaller has completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 2,260 yards and 19 touchdowns while ranking third in the GLVC in passing yards.

Simms' top target has been Logan Armontrout (Centralia, MO/Centralia) with 34 receptions for 479 yards and four touchdowns, while Josh Brown (Gainesville, FL/North Marion HS) has 33 catches for 504 yards and four scores and Payton McAlister (Decatur, TX/Decatur) – who had a rushing and receiving touchdown last week – has four touchdowns receptions among his 29 catches.

McAlister also ran for 86 yards in Saturday's win as part of a three-headed rushing attack for the Miners this season along with Deshawn Jones (Olympia Fields, IL/Rich Central) and Aaron Moya (Canutillo, TX/Canutillo).  Jones, who had his 14th 100-yard game of his career Saturday with an even 100, leads the way with 587 yards (fourth in the GLVC) and is 183 away from the S&T career mark, while Moya has 471 on the season and McAlister comes in with 388 rushing yards.

Defensively, the Miners have been paced by the 75 tackles from safety Justin Onwugbufor (Maize, KS/Northwest), while linebackers Stefan Camplin (Raytown, MO/Raytown) and Dontay White (Florissant, MO/Hazelwood Central) have recorded 50 stops apiece on the year and Wharton has 48 with a team-high 9.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and 5.5 quarterback sacks.

Camplin also has seven tackles for a loss, while Zach Gallina (Vista, CA/Rancho Buena Vista) has four interceptions on the team which is tied for the lead in the GLVC.

Styron recorded 14 points in the kicking department last week to become the first placekicker in GLVC history to record 300 points in a career; his 305 points are second all-time on the Missouri S&T career list.
