EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team made improvement during Rob Cummings' second season as head coach, but the 2019 campaign ended in a disappointing manner Sunday afternoon as Southern Indiana used a flurry of goals in the first half to gain control and hand the Miners a 6-0 setback.
USI scored four times in the first 25 minutes of play and put an end to the Miner season, as S&T finished at 5-10-2 overall and 4-9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Ryan Nevins scored three times for the Screaming Eagles (8-6-3, 8-5-2 GLVC) in the first 24 minutes of the contest, beginning with a goal in the 14
th minute to put USI in front. Nevins added goals in the 22
nd and 24
th minutes to give his team a 3-0 lead, then Zach Barton scored less than a minute later for the Screaming Eagles' fourth goal of the opening half.
The Miners took six shots in the first half and had three on net, while finishing the contest with 10 shots and five on goal.
Jacob Bandy (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley) had two of the shots on goal for S&T, while
Austin Parks (Rolla, MO/Rolla) also had two shot attempts that included one that caromed off the crossbar early in the second half. USI held a 16-10 advantage in shots.
