ROLLA, Mo. – For the third consecutive year, Missouri S&T running back
Deshawn Jones (Olympia Fields, IL/Rich Central) has been named to the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A two-time Academic All-America selection, Jones will be eligible to win the honor for a third straight year when that team is announced next month.
Heading into this weekend, Jones – who is majoring in biological sciences at S&T – is closing in on the school's all-time rushing record as he needs just 86 yards to reach the long-standing mark held by Terry Ryan. Jones has 684 rushing yards on the season, ranking him fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 3,346 yards for his career that includes a school record 1,579 yards in the 2017 season to help him earn All-America honors on the field.
He is the Miners' career leader in rushing touchdowns with 36 and also ranks third on the school's career list for points scored with 224 and fifth in all-purpose yards with 3,715, where he is only 32 yards away from fourth place on that list. Jones' 14 100-yard rushing games during his four seasons at S&T are second only to Ryan's 19.
In addition to his Academic All-District and All-America awards, Jones was named as the GLVC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in football following the 2017 season.
Missouri S&T will close its 2019 regular season schedule Saturday when it hosts McKendree at 1 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Jones will be among the 14 Miner seniors that will be honored prior to the contest.
