ROLLA, Mo. – Still in contention for a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team heads to the road for the final regular season weekend of play as it heads east to face two teams currently among the top eight in the conference standings.

The Miners enter the weekend at 5-8-2 overall and in 12th place in the GLVC at 4-7-2, but sit only one game in back of Lewis and Illinois Springfield who are currently tied for eighth place.  For the Miners to break into the top eight, they will likely need to win both of their weekend contests, beginning with Friday's 7:30 p.m. game against GLVC leader McKendree in Lebanon, Ill.

S&T will close its regular season slate Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind.

ABOUT THE MINERS: Missouri S&T finished the first of its two weekends on the road with a pair of setbacks, the first a 2-1 overtime loss at Indianapolis when the Greyhounds scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick.  On Sunday, S&T fell 4-0 to 10th-ranked Bellarmine.

Bertram Gjelfort (Frederiksberg, Denmark/Falkonergaarden) continues to lead the Miners in scoring with six goals and 12 points; he is currently tied for eighth in the GLVC in goals.  Paal Benum (Trondheim, Norway/Byaasen Videregaadende), who scored the S&T goal in the UIndy contest, has four goals on the season, while Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria) and Julien Denis (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) have two goals and two assists apiece.

Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) enters play this weekend sporting a 1.90 goals against average with 41 saves in 1,323 minutes of playing time.

ABOUT McKENDREE: The Bearcats currently hold the lead in the GLVC standings with an 11-0-2 mark and have won 10 games in succession overall to improve its mark to 12-1-2 on the year.  McKendree, ranked 17th in this week's United Soccer Coaches rankings for NCAA Division II, knocked off Quincy 2-1 on Friday and then recorded its ninth shutout of the season Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Truman State.

James Stone, named Monday as the GLVC's "Player of the Week", leads the GLVC in scoring with a league-high 11 goals and five assists for 27 points while Gonzalo Correa and Rulo Arteaga have five goals apiece.  Eddie Davis, who has scored twice this year, is second in the conference with seven assists.

The Bearcats have employed a pair of goalkeepers this season, with Pachu Cortazar holding a 0.14 goals against average in 637 minutes and Brett Niedzwiecki owning a 0.83 mark in 759 minutes of action.

ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA:  The Screaming Eagles also picked up road wins over Truman State and Quincy over the weekend to solidify its spot among the top eight in the conference standings, as USI heads into Friday's matchup with Maryville at 7-5-3 overall and 7-4-2 in conference play.  USI has lost just once in six home games this season.

Sean Rickey leads the Screaming Eagles in scoring with five goals and six assists for 16 points after finishing second in the GLVC with 11 goals in 2018, while Eric Ramirez has recorded five goals and four assists this fall.  USI has also received three goals apiece from Zach Barton, Drew Albert and Ryan Nevins.
