Morgan Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland) notched two goals to spark the Missouri S&T women's soccer team to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Emporia State this Friday (Sept. 7) afternoon at Lindenwood's Harlen C. Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
Sikora tallied a goal apiece in each half, which included the match's final one with just under 16 minutes remaining, as the Miners even their season's record to 1-1-0.
S&T was the first to strike as Sikora scored at the 20:56 mark on a shot from 20 yards out on the right side for her first goal of this season as senior midfielder T
aylor Vollmer picked up an assist.
The Hornets managed to knot the contest up at 1-1 precisely 18 minutes later on a goal from Olivia Miller, which was her first of the 2018 campaign. Miller's tally came via a four-yard rebound shot off a save.

Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) scored unassisted for S&T for her first goal of the season with 3:04 left in the opening half to put the Miners up 2-1 at intermission. Mockenhaupt registered the goal on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Taylor Vollmer's (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) second-half score, which was her first of the season, put the Miners in front for good at 3-1. Vollmer, who netted her goal at 47:06 of the second frame, took a pass from junior defender-midfielder
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) and kicked the ball from the far left side off of the right post past Emporia State's goalkeeper Jillian Patton.
Emporia State would get one back just under 15 minutes later to cut its deficit to 3-2 as Maria Walden found the S&T net from seven yards out. The Miners would add an insurance goal at the 79:43 mark when
Morgan Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland) scored again on a
Taylor Vollmer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) assist. Sikora fired a shot from 18 yards out on the right side to left side of the Hornets' goal.
Missouri S&T totaled 16 shots, including six on goal, while Emporia State generated 10 total shots with seven on the Miners' net. The Miners also held a five-to-four edge in corner kick tries.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) earned the victory in net for S&T as she made five saves in 90 minutes of action. Jillian Patton took the loss for ESU by allowing all four Miner goals to go with a pair of saves as the Hornets fall to 2-1-0 overall on the season as a result of the setback.
S&T returns to play this Sunday (Sept. 7) as the Miners go up against the host Lindenwood (Mo.) Lions at LU's Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The non-conference outing is set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
