ROLLA, Mo. – Following its season opening road trip to Michigan, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will open its home schedule Sunday as it hosts Upper Iowa in a 2 p.m. contest at the S&T Soccer Field.
Sunday's matchup features two teams that come into the weekend seeking to win for the first time this season, as the Miners dropped both of their games to open the season – including an overtime loss Tuesday at Davenport – while the Peacocks went 0-1-1 in the first weekend of the 2018 campaign.
S&T lost at Northwood on Sunday to open the season, then got a goal from
Austin Parks (Rolla, MO/Rolla) in the waning seconds of regulation time Tuesday to send that game into overtime before the Panthers scored in the 99
th minute to take the contest.
Parks scored three of the Miners' four goals in the first two outings of the year, including both goals in Tuesday's game. The fourth goal came from
Unnar Ulfarsson (Gardabaer, Iceland/Fjolnir Reykjavik), who assisted on that game-tying tally.
Upper Iowa lost to the Miners' former Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, Wisconsin-Parkside, by a 3-1 count Friday before playing to a scoreless tie Sunday at Lewis. Freshman Owen Johnson had the only goal for the Peacocks in the setback at UW-Parkside.
Sunday's game will be the Miners' final non-conference game of the season, as they open GLVC play Sept. 14 against Bellarmine in Rolla.
