Win Streak Reaches Three as Miners Sweep Dustdevils

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Missouri S&T women's volleyball team continued on the winning trek this Saturday (Sept. 1) as the Miners blitzed Texas A&M International by a 3-0 margin (25-23, 25-13, 25-23) in an 11th annual Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational tilt at NSU's Rick Case Arena.

The Miners, who bumped their season mark to 6-1 overall, generated a .213 hitting percentage and held the Dustdevils to a .135 attack percentage.

Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic), a senior outside hitter, was the lone S&T player to post double digits in kills with a match-best 14.  Junior outside hitter Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) hammered nine kills in the match sweep as redshirt sophomore setter garnered 25 assists.

Defensively, junior defensive specialist-libero Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) dug a team-most 18 TAMIU attacks and Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) made 12 digs.  Supporting the S&T's defensive effort was junior defensive specialist-libero Eva Mich (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central), who provided 11 digs as the Miners would claim a 65-61 team edge.

TAMIU, which fell to 1-7 this season, was paced by Mackenzie Catlina's nine kills while Lacy Asdourian racked up 20 digs to lead all players.

Set 1: S&T 25 – TAMIU 23
Set one was close throughout and not surprisingly since both teams were both registered just over a .200 hitting percentage.  S&T, which had a .214 percentage to TAMIU's .222 hitting proficiency, snapped a 20-all deadlock per an Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) kill.  The Dustdevils managed to pull within 23-22, but the Miners earned two of the set's last three points to come out victorious.

Set 2: S&T 25 – TAMIU 13
S&T cruised in the set two with a dominating performance as the Miners recorded a .344 hitting percentage while the Dustdevils mustered a .062 hitting efficiency.  The set's first 11 points were scored by S&T as the Miners built up a 13-point advantage (23-10) in the late stages of the set.

Set 3: S&T 25 – TAMIU 23
The Miners snapped a 23-all tie in the first set on an Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) kill and a set-clinching service ace by sophomore right-side hitter Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State).  S&T, which hit .125 for the set, jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the match.
