S&T's Gold Miner Dance Team and Joe Miner Mascot Earn UDA Camp Top Honors

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Gold Miner Dance Team displayed excellence at the 2018 Universal Dance Association (UDA) Collegiate Spirit Dance Camp held July 27-29 as the Miners finished with a Superior team status and also received a Superior Award for their Game Day Performance.  S&T's mascot, Joe Miner claimed first-place recognition in the camp's Mascot Championship competition.

"The Gold Miners showed excellence in their performances at camp," said S&T Gold Miner Dance Coach Sarah Covey.  "We have a small squad (four members), but these dancers have extensive dancing backgrounds.  They worked extremely well together and were rewarded for their efforts.

"I'm proud to coach such amazing student-athletes," added Covey.

The UDA College Spirit Camp, which took place on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., featured the dancers' participation in performing their school's traditional fight song, game situation and a newly-created time out component where teams have the option of learning one of three 30 second time out routines (pom/jazz/hip hop).

This year marked the camp's first-ever mascot competition as the various participating school's mascots competed in a time out routine alongside their respective dance teams.
