ROSEMONT, Ill. – Missouri S&T closed its weekend of play at the Lewis Dome Invitational with a tough 1-0 loss to 15
th-ranked Wayne State Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Miners (7-7) were held to four hits in the contest – two of them coming from
Ashley Davis (Erie, Ill./Erie) – and had their best scoring chance in the contest in the fourth when the game was still scoreless.
Olivia Young (Milstadt, Ill./Belleville Township) drew a leadoff walk and Davis singled with two outs, but
Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Catholic Memorial) was retired on a foul ball down the right field line to end that threat.
Wayne State (1-4) got the only run of the contest in the sixth on an RBI double off the bat of Bryanna Kressler. S&T had a chance in the seventh with Davis got her second hit of the game with one out, but WSU pitcher Megan Guitar got a fly ball and a ground out to end the game.
The Warriors outhit S&T 9-4 in the game as
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) was the hard-luck losing pitcher.
Missouri S&T returns to action Saturday when it hosts Southwest Baptist in a noon doubleheader at the S&T Softball Field.
