ROLLA, Mo. – For the second straight game, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team cleared the century mark and did so in record fashion Tuesday night, as the Miners broke their single-game scoring mark in a 141-52 romp over Central Christian (Mo.) at Gibson Arena.
The Miners, who have not trailed in either of their two wins this season, were even with the Saints at two in the opening stages of the contest before they rattled off 13 straight points to take a big lead in the first five minutes of play. S&T had additional runs of 22 and 13 straight points in the opening half, as it shot 54 percent in the first 20 minutes and led 73-17 at the break.
Missouri S&T continued its torrid shooting in the second half as it made 60.9 percent of its attempts.
Seven players scored in double figures for S&T, led by
Jordan Newt (San Francisco, CA/Malibu) with 23 points as he connected on seven of his 12 three-point attempts.
Yahmir Muhammad (Rockford, IL/Auburn) added 16 points and
Nikola Andric (Uzice, Serbia/Gymnasium) had 14 and a team-high nine rebounds.
Juwan Miller (Kitchener, Ont./Huron Heights) had 13 points and eight boards for the Miners, while
CJ Hedgepeth (Evansville, IN/Harrison) and
Brooks Gerrity (Chesterfield, MO/Marquette) had 11 points apiece and
Kyle Bushman (Mount Vernon, MO/Mount Vernon) scored 10.
Josh Crawford led Central Christian (2-4) with 12 points.
The Miners will close out their season-opening three-game homestand Saturday when they host Missouri Western in a 3 p.m. contest at Gibson Arena. Saturday's game will be Community Appreciation Day and all fans will be admitted free; the renovated arena will also be dedicated at halftime of Saturday's game.
