ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A hard-fought effort by Missouri S&T's men's soccer team Wednesday wasn't enough to land a game in the win column, as Maryville scored a late second half goal to down the Miners 1-0 in S&T's season finale.
Cameron Paton took a cross from Dom Riggio and hit a shot from about 18 yards away that beat S&T goalkeeper
Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) for the only goal of the contest in the 73
rd minute to give the Saints (9-4-3, 8-3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) the victory.
Despite being outshot 14-7 in the contest, the Miners (3-13, 3-10 GLVC) had some good scoring chances, including being awarded a penalty kick in the first half. However, Saint goalkeeper Christian Kjaerdsgaard went to his left to stop the attempt by
Austin Parks (Rolla, MO/Rolla) to keep the game scoreless late in the first half.
The Miners also had seven corner kick opportunities during the afternoon, six of them coming in the second half, but was unable to get one past Kjaerdsgaard, who finished the game with four saves as did Posey for the Miners.
Parks led the Miners with three shot attempts in the game.
