Miner swimmers to host Delta State Friday evening

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team will host its lone meet of the season Friday night in the first of two meets the Miners will compete in this weekend, as S&T will take on Delta State in a matchup of ranked teams at 6 p.m. at the S&T Pool in the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

Friday's meet will be the Miners' annual pizza night, as pizza and soda will be available to the first 100 fans in attendance beginning at 5:45 p.m. outside the entrance to the swimming facility.  Missouri S&T's seniors will also be honored prior to the start of Friday's competition.

It will be the second meet of the year for Missouri S&T, who competed two weeks ago at the Show-Me Showdown at the University of Missouri.  Meanwhile, Delta State is competing for the third time, as it has taken part in dual meets with Alabama and Rhodes to begin the year.  Both teams are among the top 20 in the CollegeSwimming.com rankings, as Delta State is ranked fourth and the Miners are at No. 17, while the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's pre-season rankings has Delta State at No. 4 and the Miners at No. 15.

The Miners come into the meet with seven returning All-America performers, headed by two-time national champion Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS), while Delta State returns a large portion of its roster from a team that finished ninth at last year's NCAA Division II Championships.  That group includes Giulio Brugnoni, who was the national runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke last season.

Following Friday's meet, the Miners will head to O'Fallon, Ill., to take part in a quadrangular meet with Maryville, Saint Louis and host McKendree.  That meet is slated to begin at noon.
