SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T was unable to slow down one of the top three-point shooting teams in the nation Saturday afternoon, as Drury made 20 three-point baskets and went on to a 118-74 Great Lakes Valley Conference win at the O'Reilly Family Events Center.
The Panthers entered the game averaging 12.5 three-pointers per game, the sixth-best average in NCAA Division II and its 44.5 percent mark from beyond the arc was the second-best entering play this weekend. Drury hit 11 three-pointers in the first half alone – just over one off that season average – and shot 61 percent overall during the course of the first 20 minutes.
The Miners (2-12, 0-6 GLVC) had a promising start Saturday, playing on even terms with the Panthers (11-2, 4-1 GLVC) over the first six minutes and were down by just two following an
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) three-pointer that brought about a Drury timeout.
But after the timeout, the Panthers began to rain in threes, beginning with one from Allen Billinger that started a 14-2 run; Drury hit three treys during that run, then hit two more moments later after a three-point play by
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) to take a 35-18 lead by the 7:04 mark of the opening half. Drury would lead 67-35 at halftime.
Drury finished the game shooting 61.3 percent from the field and hit its 20 three-pointers in 38 attempts.
Allante Pickens (Chicago, IL/Curie) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Miners, while Louiserre finished with 18 and
Greg Lahm (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) matched his career best with 12 points. The Miners hit 47.2 percent of their shots on the afternoon and matched their season high with 15 three-pointers – six of them from Pickens.
The Miners return to action Monday when they host William Jewell at Billy Key Court. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
