Volleyball concludes season with pair of road matches this weekend

Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team wraps up its 2017 season this weekend with a pair of road matches against Truman State and William Jewell. The Miners and Bulldogs square off in Kirksville on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and then S&T heads to Liberty, Mo., for a 3 p.m. match against the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.

The Miners (9-20, 2-14 GLVC) have a seen a spike in their offensive production over the past three matches averaging 12.4 kills per set and have an attack percentage of .229. S&T has four players averaging more than two kills per set the last three contests led by Ellen Schulz (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) with 2.64 per set. Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) is contributing 2.36 kills per set, Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas) is adding 2.18 per set and Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) is averaging 2.11 per set. Meyer has also been a presence at the net on the defensive side with 17 total blocks in the last three matches.

Truman State enters Friday's contest with a record of 16-13, 8-8 in GLVC action and have won five of its last six overall. Its only loss in the last two weeks was a four set loss at the hands of Rockhurst this past Friday. The Bulldogs picked up their second straight win on Tuesday defeating Drury in four sets. Natalie Brimeyer led the 'Dogs with 12 kills while Sam Yancy added 11 and Jasmine Brown finished with 10 kills.

Saturday's match at William Jewell is a rematch from last Friday when S&T rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Cardinals in a five set thriller in Rolla. WJC is 10-19, 4-11 GLVC and has dropped four of its last five matches heading into Friday night's contest against Drury.

This past Saturday, the Cardinals dropped a four set match at Truman State. They were led by Paige Cunningham with 15 kills while Elizabeth Quinn and Maddie Wingert added 13 and 10 kills respectively.
