TULSA, Okla. – A red-hot Tulsa team was too much for Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Hurricane handed the Miners a 113-56 loss in an exhibition contest at the Reynolds Center.
Tulsa, a member of the American Athletic Conference, made 61.2 percent of its shots from the field and connected 20 times from three-point range as it ran out to a huge lead by halftime and continued the hot shooting after the intermission.
After the teams traded baskets on their opening possessions, the Golden Hurricane rattled off 15 of the next 17 points to take an early 13-point lead. The advantage grew to 18 at 27-9 before the Miner made a run over the next two minutes, getting the margin down to 10 following a basket by
Juwan Miller (Kitchener, Ont./Huron Heights) midway through the half.
However, a 9-0 run by Tulsa put the contest back into its control and its long range shooting – the Golden Hurricane made 11 treys in the opening half – began to expand the lead as the contest wore on.
Tulsa made 20-of-34 from three-point land in the game as eight different players knocked down shots from beyond the arc. Corey Henderson, who hit six three-pointers, led six Tulsa players in double figures with 21 points.
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) had 22 to lead S&T and hit four of the Miners' nine three-point shots, but S&T made only 30.3 perecnt of its attempts from the field and was outrebounded by a 52-24 margin.
The Miners open their 2017-18 season on Nov. 11 when they host Blackburn at 8 p.m. at Billy Key Court.
