ROLLA, Mo. – Following a three-week break in competition, Missouri S&T's swimming team will take part in two meets this weekend, including its home opener Friday evening against Delta State.
Friday's meet between the Miners and Statesmen will get underway at 5 p.m. at the S&T Pool in the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building and will be a matchup between two teams currently ranked in the top 25 in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's pre-season poll, with Delta State at No. 6 and the Miners at No. 20.
Both teams will then head to St. Peters, Mo., Saturday to take part in the Lindenwood Quad Meet at the St. Peters Rec Plex, competing against fifth-ranked Lindenwood and William Jewell. That meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The Miners posted 10 finishes in the top 10 in various events in their only competition to date at the Show-Me Showdown on Sept. 29, led by
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston)'s finishes of fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-freestyle. Meyer also anchored the Miners' top relay finish of fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay at that meet that included three NCAA Division I schools.
The 400-freestyle relay team, that also included
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset),
Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan) and
Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier), posted a time of 3:07.85 in that meet that stands as the seventh-best time in NCAA Division II this season, while
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) has the seventh-best performance in the 500-yard freestyle of 4:40.82.
Delta State has been in two meets this season – but like the Miners, have not competed since Sept. 29 when it defeated Rhodes in a dual meet. Giulio Brugnoni posted a time of 48.71 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke in a meet at Alabama to start the season, the best mark in NCAA Division II this year and has also recorded a mark of 20.99 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, the fifth-best mark in the early season in NCAA Division II.
Lindenwood has competed three times in the early going – including at the Show-Me Showdown along with S&T – while William Jewell had its opening competition of the season two weeks ago.
