SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped its season finale at eighth ranked Drury
92-56 on Thursday evening at the O'Reilly Family Events Center in Springfield, Mo. S&T made a season best 23 free throws but hit only 14 shots from the floor in the contest.
The Lady Miners (6-20, 2-16 GLVC) scored the first points as
Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ) hit a three-pointer from the top of the key 0:18 into the game. The Lady Panthers (23-3, 17-1 GLVC) answered with nine straight points over the next three minutes as S&T turned it over six times during that stretch.
The Lady Miners trailed by just six with 11 minutes to play in the opening half, but Drury scored 12 straight points over the next six minutes to build a double digit lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) finally broke the run hitting a pair of free throws with 5:14 to go in the frame.
The Lady Panthers pushed their lead to as many as 21 points in the stanza on a three-pointer from Paige Wilson and a layup by Brianna Jones with 4:20 to go in the half. S&T cut the lead to 13, but Drury went into the locker room with a 16 point lead at the break as Alice Heinzler hit a three.
The Lady Miners went on a 9-4 run over the first four minutes of the second half to cut the Lady Panther lead to 11 after a three-pointer from the left corner by
Linda Pagrode (Jaunolaine, Latvia/Riga 99). The Lady Panthers countered that run with an 18-2 run of their own over the next five minutes to build a 27-point lead.
S&T wouldn't get any closer than 20 points the rest of the way as Drury would eventually build a 30-point lead over the last three minutes of the game.
The Lady Miners shot just 35 percent (14-for-40) from the field and were 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from beyond the arc. S&T did shot 72 percent at the foul line bur turned it over 25 times resulting in 32 points for Drury.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) led the Lady Miners with 17 points while S. Douvier added 10 points. Andersen finished with nine and Pagrode dropped in seven.
The Lady Panthers were 30-for-64 (47 percent) from the field, they shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from beyond the arc and hit 19 of 22 free throws. They outrebounded S&T 35-34 including 11-8 on the offensive end. Sanayika Shields led five Drury players in double digits with 14 points. Heinzler had 12, Becca Steins added 11 while Shelby White and Briana Jones had 10 each.
