Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners used a 15-3 run over the final seven minutes to overcome a 12-point deficit and earn a 
67-64 win over the Harris-Stowe Hornets on Sunday at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. The Lady Miners (5-4) shot 55 percent from the floor but had to overcome 29 turnovers to earn the victory.
The Hornets (4-7) scored eight of the first 12 points to begin the contest before S&T rattled off five straight to regain the lead after an old fashioned 3-point play by 
Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ). Harris-Stowe regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Alantis Sutton but the Lady Miners scored six of the final eight points of the opening quarter to take a 15-13 lead at the break. 
Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) capped the run hitting a layup just before the buzzer on the break.
The Hornets scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to build an 11-point lead. S&T cut the lead to nine on a bucket by 
Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) but another 3-pointer by Sutton pushed the margin to 12. The Lady Miners cut the lead to 35-29 after Pierce converted an old fashioned 3-point play with 0:15 left in the half, but Angela Randall hit a 3-pointer right before the break to give the Hornets a 38-29 lead at the intermission.
S&T shot 48 percent (13-for-27) from the floor in the opening half but turned the ball over 16 times resulting in 15 points for Harris-Stowe. Pierce led the Lady Miners with 11 points while 
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) added six off the bench.
Randall and Sutton combined to score 24 of the Hornets points in the first 20 minutes and were 10-of-15 from the floor while the rest of the team was only 5-for-19.
Randall began the second half with a jumper to put Harris-Stowe up by 11, but S&T responded with 13-4 run over the next four minutes to get within 44-42 on a 3-pointer by 
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School). The Hornets answered that run outscoring the Lady Miners 10-4 over the final five minutes of the quarter to take an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Bland hit a layup to begin the final frame to pull S&T within six before Harris-Stowe stretched the lead back to double digits behind five points from Sutton. The Hornets still led by nine after Sutton hit a layup on the break with 7:17 to go.
The Lady Miners locked down defensively and went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 63-61 lead with 2:43 to play. It was S&T's bench that played a part in that run as they scored nine of the 11 points. 
Linda Pagrode (Jaunolaine, Latvia/Riga 99) had five of those points including three free throws.
The Hornets regained with 1:10 to play after Sutton hit a pair of free throws. The Lady Miners regained the lead on the ensuing possession as Pagrode hit a layup to make it 65-64 with less than a minute remaining. Sutton missed a three on the next possession and Bland came away with the rebound. With the shot clock winding down Bland was fouled and went to the line making 1-of-2.
Harris-Stowe had two chances to tie the game as Randall missed a running layup and then Khalilah Morrow missed a putback attempt and knocked the ball out of bounds on the rebound. Greenwood was fouled on the inbounds pass and made 1-of-2 at the line to extend the lead to three with 0:05 left.
The Hornets had one more opportunity but Sutton was doubled team and her shot never made it to the basket as Douvier came away with the rebound to secure the victory.
S&T shot 89 percent from the floor in the final quarter and finished the game making 27-of-49 attempts. It was 2-for-9 from three and 11-for-14 at the foul line. Greenwood led four Lady Miners in double figures with 15 points. Pierce added 14, Douvier finished with 11 and Bland dropped home 10.
Harris-Stowe took 15 more shots than S&T but shot only 38 percent (24-for-64) from the floor. It was 5-of-17 from beyond the arc and 11-for-15 at the foul line. Sutton led all scorers with 20 points while Randall added 19.
The Lady Miners are off until Friday, Jan. 1, when they travel to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m.
