Volleyball returns home to face William Jewell and Rockhurst

(Rolla, Mo.) – The Miner volleyball team returns home this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches against William Jewell on Friday and Rockhurst on Saturday. S&T has won four straight and five of their last six to climb over the .500 mark.

The Miners ran their win streak to four with a sweep at McKendree on Tuesday evening behind a solid defensive effort. Alison Mueller (Bartelso, Ill./Mater Dei ) led S&T with 12 kills in the contest while Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) added eight.

William Jewell enters Friday's match with a record of 2-8, 1-3 in the GLVC. The Cardinals broke a six-match losing streak on Sunday defeating Saint Joseph's in straight sets.

As a team, WJC is hitting .117 percent and averaging 10.1 kills per set while allowing its opponents to hit .186 percent and average 13.0 kills a set. Lauren Holm leads the offensive attack averaging nearly 3.00 kills per set.

Friday's contest will be the seventh all-time meeting against the Cardinals with the Miners holding a 6-0 lead in the series. S&T swept both meetings against William Jewell last season.

On Saturday the Miners will welcome Rockhurst to town. The Hawks enter play this week with a 9-0 mark, 4-0 in the GLVC and are the lone unbeaten team in the league. Rockhurst ran its winning streak to nine straight last weekend sweeping Saint Joseph's and defeating Indianapolis 3-1 at home.

Rockhurst is one of the top offensive and defensive teams in the conference ranking amongst the league leaders in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, kills and blocks. Preecy Seever leads the Hawk attack averaging 3.47 kills/set while Katie Loescher and Morgan Rietzke averaging 2.91 and 2.88 kills/set respectively.

Saturday's contest marks the 13th meeting all-time between the two schools with Rockhurst holding an 8-4 edge in the series. However, the Miners have won four of the last six meetings. The two sides split last year with each team winning on their home courts.
