S&T falls in GLVC Championship 4-1 to #4 Wisconsin-Parkside

SOMERS, Wis. – Missouri S&T's quest for a GLVC women's soccer championship came up short as it fell at fourth ranked Wisconsin-Parkside 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Wood Road Field in Somers, Wis. S&T finishes its season with a record of 9-10-1, it's the most wins in a season since 2000.

The Rangers (17-0-3) struck quickly on Sunday scoring 1:14 into the contest on a goal by Taylor Schiffer-Jander. She deked her defender on the left side of the box before firing off shot and past Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy). They would add a second goal in the 20th minute off a corner kick. Niekie Pellens sent one into the box and Kelsey Armour redirected off the near post and in for her fifth of the season.

The Lady Miners got their first opportunity in the 28th minute. Rachel O'Neal (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) ran down a pass from Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and was in alone on goal, but Mallory Geurts came off her line to deny O'Neal and give S&T a corner kick. Alex McCord (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) took the corner and sent the ball over the goal mouth to Sab. Hostler on the back post and she put it in for her 11th of the season. The 11 goals in a season tied her with Barb Porter for 10th most in a single season.

Parkside took the 2-1 lead into the break and outshot the Lady Miners 10-2 in the opening 45 minutes. The Rangers also had six corner kicks to one for S&T.

Parkside added a third goal 7:15 into the second half. Jillian Hetfleisch got loose and ripped a shot just inside the box inside the far post. The Rangers added their four fourth goal just over three minutes later when Bailey Reed scored into the far corner off an assist from Pellens.

Parkside finished the game outshooting the Lady Miners 19-2 and had 11 corner kicks. It was a very physical game with 39 fouls whistled and three yellow cards handed out.
