Cold shooting hampers S&T in exhibition loss at Missouri-Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A tough shooting performance and the three-point line proved again to be a big difference as Missouri S&T dropped its second exhibition contest of the season 62-41 on Saturday evening at Missouri-Kansas City.

The Kangaroos shot 35 percent from behind the three-point line while the Lady Miners went 0-for-12 from downtown. S&T held a 34-22 on points inside the arc, but were outscored 21-0 from beyond the three-point line and 19-7 at the charity stripe. In last week's exhibition loss the Lady Miners allowed Lindenwood-Belleville to make 13 three-point field goals.

Neither side shot the ball well in the opening half as the 'Roos hit just 6 of their 21 attempts, but were 3-for-7 from distance. The Lady Miners made two more field goals in the frame than their hosts and took 13 more shots than UMKC as the 'Roos went into the locker room with a 22-21 lead.

UMKC opened the second half on a 20-10 run to extend its halftime lead to 11 points with 15 of those points coming from the duo of Calli White and Paige Husa.

S&T wouldn't get closer than nine points the rest of the contest as it continued its struggle to score going just 9-for-27 from the floor and 0-of-4 from beyond the arc. Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) led the Lady Miners with 10 points each.

White led all scorers with 17 points while Husa dropped in 11 and Aries Washington chipped in with 10. The 'Roos shot 40 percent from the field in the second half finishing the contest with a shooting percentage of 35.3 (18-for-51).

S&T opens the regular season next Saturday when it hosts Henderson State University at 6 p.m.
