Miners look to extend winning streak as Knights, Bearcats visit town

9/25/2013 11:39:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will look to extend its winning streak to four games Friday when it opens a two-game Great Lakes Valley Conference homestand against Bellarmine University at the S&T Soccer Field.  Game time will be at 7:30 p.m.  The Miners will also host McKendree Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Miners have won all three games on their current winning streak by one goal, the most recent a 3-2 double overtime win Sunday at Illinois Springfield.  Diego Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish), who assisted on Carlos Gomez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Sra Del Recurerdo)'s game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation time, won it with under five minutes remaining in the second extra period to push the Miners to 3-1 in the GLVC and 4-2 entering play this week.

Alex Reifschneider (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), who scored the only goal of the game in S&T's win two days earlier at Southern Indiana, leads the Miners with three goals while goalkeeper Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) owns a 0.96 goals against average.

The Miners will be taking on a Bellarmine team that will bring a 4-1-1 overall record and 2-1-1 conference mark into Friday's game.  The Knights tied 10th-ranked Rockhurst last week and have the league leader in goals in Matt Odem, who has scored five times and in points in Dan Schiavi with 11.  Goalkeeper Blake Hunter has recorded a 1.59 goals against average on the season.

McKendree has dropped four straight heading into its game Friday at Drury and has lost its last three by a goal apiece.  Alex Ridsdale has a team-high three goals for the Bearcats, 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC.
