ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T junior Jusean Archibald (Bridgeton, Mo./Trinity) was selected Tuesday as part of the field to compete at the 2013 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will begin May 23 in Pueblo, Colo.

Thanks to an improvement in his provisional qualifying time over the past weekend at a meet at Emporia State, Archibald became of the 21 competitors selected to take part in the 110-meter hurdles at the national meet.  He posted a school record time of 14.11 seconds in the event – breaking a 24-year-old school record in the process – to earn a spot in the field.

During the 2013 outdoor season, Archibald was the Great Lakes Valley Conference champion in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the race at the conference meet in a time of 14.40 seconds which was his fastest of the year prior to Saturday's performance.  He earned first-team All-GLVC honors for the second time in his career and was a second-team All-GLVC selection following the 2012-13 indoor campaign.

This will be Archibald's first opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division II Championships, although he earned all-Midwest region honors during the 2011-12 indoor season from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.  He was unable to compete at the national meet, despite making a provisional qualifying mark, due to an injury suffered early in that season.

The preliminary round of the 110-hurdles will take place on Friday, May 24 at 7:55 p.m., Central time, with the finals slated for the following evening at 7:05 p.m.

The top performance of the 2013 season was posted by Saint Augustine's junior Moussa Dembele of 13.59 seconds.  Six of the competitors among the 21 in the field have posted a time under 14 seconds in the event at some point during the year.
