Jason Holt announced the signing of two more prep athletes to his 2013 recruiting class. With the addition of these two players the Miners will have nine new faces on their roster this fall.
ASHLEY ALLEGRI, a 5-8 outside hitter-defensive specialist from Shawnee Mission East HS in Prairie Village, Kan.: Allegri earned three letters and was team captain for the Lancers and helped lead the team to a first place finish in Sunflower League as a junior. She was a three-time team Most Valuable Player as well as a First Team All-Sunflower League selection in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Allegri currently plays club volleyball for Performance Volleyball Association (PVA). She is a member of the SMEHS Honor Roll and a member of National Honor Society.
"Ashley is a dynamic jack-of-all-trades type of player," Holt said. "She is a fantastic six-rotation outside hitter with great jumping ability, an aggressive swing and outstanding ball control in the back row. She will give us outstanding depth at both the outside hitter and defensive specialist positions. Look for Ashley to make a name for herself in a Miner uniform."
HOLLY TARVIN, a 6-1 outside hitter from Blue Springs HS in Blue Springs, Mo.: Tarvin lettered four years for the Wildcats, including helping lead BSHS to a runner-up finish during her freshman year. As a sophomore, she was named First Team All-District and Second Team All-Conference. As a junior she earned First team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region. Following her senior season, she earned many accolades including 2
nd Team All-State, First Team All-Region, All-District and All-Conference as well as being named to the Missouri All-State Team of the Mo-Kan All-Star game and was named the
Kansas City Examiner Player of the Year. She completed her final season with 273 kills, hitting .338, and notched 253 digs, 14 service aces and 25 blocks. Tarvin plays club volleyball for the top ranked ASICS MAVS Volleyball Club in Kansas City.
“Holly is an outstanding get for the Miners," he said. "She finished her outstanding interscholastic career as one of the best in Kansas City and in the state of Missouri. She is a solid, balanced six-rotation outside hitter, who has outstanding range both offensively and defensively and immediately makes us better on the left side. We will look to Holly to come in and challenge for time right away while she picks up the speed & aggressiveness of the collegiate game.”
The Miners finished the 2012 season with a 20-13 mark and went 15-3 in the GLVC's West Division and won its second straight divisional championship.
