11/1/2013 1:59:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – After pulling out a late victory to clinch a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team will open play in the event Sunday when it take on regular season co-champion Quincy in a 2:30 p.m. game in Quincy, Ill.

The Miners enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed after getting a goal from Joe Macke (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central HS) with 2:53 to play in regulation time to beat Drury 1-0. On Thursday night, S&T learned who its opponent would be when Quincy scored three times in the first 14 minutes of play and went on to a 4-2 victory over Truman State to lock up the top seed.

Quincy beat the Miners 3-0 when the teams met in Rolla on Oct. 13. The Hawks got a goal from the league's assist leader, Steve McAnany, in the 14th minute of the contest, then got two more goals in the final eight minutes for the final margin.

The Hawks have both the league's assist leader in McAnany and goal scoring leader in Jordan Roberts, who scored three times Thursday to increase his season total to 13 and had one of the late goals in the win over S&T in October.

Missouri S&T, who will enter the game with a record of 8-7-2 overall -- the Miners finished 7-6-2 in the GLVC – are led in scoring by Alex Reifschneider (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) with four goals, while David Zdvorak (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill HS) and Brian Seawright (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) have tallied three goals apiece. Goalkeeper Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) has the league's fourth-best goals against average at 0.89 heading into Sunday's contest.
