ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team ended a three-game winless streak Sunday with a thrilling overtime win at Missouri-St. Louis – and now the Miners must gear up to take on the Great Lakes Valley Conference's top two offensive teams this weekend when Truman State and Quincy visit the S&T Soccer Field.
The Miners, 5-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the GLVC, will host Truman State Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the S&T Soccer Field, followed by Quincy's visit on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
Following a 1-0 loss to Maryville last Friday, the Miners rebounded with a victory over an UMSL team that was fresh from a win two days earlier over No. 4-ranked Drury.
Brian Seawright (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) got the Miners on the scoreboard in the first half, then after the Tritons tied it early in the second half,
Ryan Lawhead (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) scored the game-winning goal by heading in
Diego Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish)'s corner kick in the sixth minute of overtime.
Alex Reifschneider (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) continues to lead the Miners in scoring with four goals on the year while Seawright has scored three times.
Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) owns a 1.06 goals against average in the nets for S&T.
Truman State, 6-3-1 overall and also 4-3-1 in GLVC play, leads the conference with 2.8 goals per game as play begins this weekend. Nick Tolmais is tied for second in the league in goals with six and points with 14, while Nick Franta has scored five times, including two in the Bulldogs' win Sunday over William Jewell.
Quincy, who is second to Truman in scoring at 2.27 goals per game, takes a 7-4 overall record and 6-2 GLVC mark into Friday's games at Drury before coming to Rolla Sunday. Jordan Roberts has scored six times for the Hawks and Xhovani Dokaj is tied for second in the league with 14 points as he has posted five goals along with Ethan Venvertloh.
