ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team heads to the St. Louis area this weekend looking to get back into the win column in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, as it will face Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis on its weekend swing to the Gateway City.
The Miners, 4-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the GLVC, will face Maryville at 1:30 p.m. Friday and wrap up the trip with a 2:30 p.m. contest Sunday at UMSL.
S&T had its three-game winning streak snapped last Friday in a 2-1 overtime loss to Bellarmine, then played to a 1-1 draw Sunday against McKendree. The Miners scored first in both games, only to see Bellarmine tie the game with under nine minutes left in regulation time and win it in the second minute of overtime and McKendree use a penalty kick with 22 minutes to go to draw even in the second contest.
Alex Reifschneider (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township), who scored S&T's goal in the Bellarmine game, leads the Miners with four goals on the season.
Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West), who has started the Miners' last four games in goal, has a 1.09 goals against average.
Maryville enters play this week seeking its first victory of the season – the Saints are 0-7 overall and 0-6 in GLVC play – and has been outscored 17-3 on the year. Gus Reinitz scored for Maryville in its 4-1 loss Sunday at Wisconsin-Parkside, one of three Saint players to score this year, while Josh Richter has a 2.36 goals against average in goal.
Missouri-St. Louis heads into Friday's match with fourth-ranked Drury on a three-game losing skid; the Tritons are 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the GLVC going into the weekend. Jon Huelsman and Nick Cherry have scored twice apiece for the Tritons, while goalkeeper Jeremiah Cooper has a 1.56 goals against average.
