Hawks blank Miners 3-0

Box Score ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team allowed a goal early in Sunday's contest with Quincy University, then the Hawks scored two more in the final eight minutes to come away with a 3-0 win over the Miners at the S&T Soccer Field.

The Miners, who played a double overtime contest with Truman State Friday that ended in a scoreless tie – their sixth overtime game in the first 11 contests of the season – fell behind in the 14th minute when Steve McAnany took a shot from the edge of the box and got it inside the far post past S&T goalkeeper Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West).

After falling behind, the Miners had a tough time getting any offense generated, as they had only two shots in the opening half of a game in which they were outshot 19-7.  Jackson did what he could to keep the Miners in the game, including stopping two point blank shots by Jordan Roberts just seconds apart midway through the second half.

S&T had its best chance to knot the score with less than 18 minutes to go, when Diego Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish) hit a shot off the goal post.  However, that would turn out to be the last shot the Miners would get in the game until the final minute of play after the Hawks (9-4, 8-2 GLVC) scored their final two goals.

Jake Bond headed in a corner kick with 7:25 remaining, then Roberts scored with 1:16 to go for the final margin.

Robyao had three of the seven S&T shots and Jackson made seven saves in goal for the Miners (5-5-2, 4-4-2 GLVC), who head to the road for their final two conference road matches next weekend.  S&T will play Friday at Indianapolis in a 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time) game and take on Saint Joseph's Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
