Box Score QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T saw its two-game winning streak come to an end Friday night at the hands of nationally-ranked Quincy University, as the Hawks took a
2-0 decision in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Hawks, ranked ninth nationally in the latest NSCA Division II rankings and unbeaten in seven contests this season, broke on top late in the opening half when Jeff Vaninger headed in a cross from Jordan Roberts at the 38:34 mark.
S&T had two shots on goal in the first half of play – both from
Peter Haw (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) – that came prior to Vaninger's goal. Haw had a shot turned away by Hawk goalkeeper Drew Duncan at the 14:14 mark and another with 27:19 gone in the opening half.
Quincy added to its lead almost immediately after the intermission, getting a goal from Ethan Venvertloh from 14 yards away just 1:14 after the second half began.
The Hawks (7-0, 3-0 GLVC) outshot the Miners 18-8 for the contest, with S&T goalkeeper
Donny Gesell (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) being credited with seven saves. Quincy also had nine corner kick opportunities in the game to S&T's three.
The Miners (3-3-1, 2-3 GLVC) will play at Illinois Springfield Sunday in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
