ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's football team returns to Allgood-Bailey Stadium this weekend seeking its first 4-0 start to a year since 2005, as it plays host to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Military Appreciation Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Military members – active, reserve or retired – will be admitted free along with their immediate families to Saturday's game with a military identification card.
The Miners won their third consecutive game in shutout fashion last week, blanking McKendree 31-0 for the program's first shutout since late in the 2008 season. S&T senior quarterback
Josh Firm (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) completed 35-of-49 passes in the game for a career-high 352 yards and four touchdowns, while wide receivers
Smook Thomas (Quincy, Fla./East Gadsden) and
Joseph Hyman (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades) – the GLVC's “Offensive Player of the Week” – combined for 21 receptions and 259 yards.
S&T's defense, meanwhile, held the Bearcats to 162 yards of total offense and recorded six quarterback sacks and three interceptions in the victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan enters Saturday's game at 1-2 overall and dropped its conference opener 29-26 at William Jewell last week. The Panthers had two opportunities to tie or win the game in the waning minutes, but had an interception in Cardinal territory and later had a bad snap on a field goal attempt that would have tied the game in the final seconds.
Panther quarterback Will Barnes has completed just over 60 percent of his passes on the season for 567 yards and four touchdowns, while wide receiver Jeff Ward has 25 catches for 269 yards. Kentucky Wesleyan's defense currently ranks first in the GLVC in passing yards allowed per game, giving up just 132 over the first three weeks of the campaign.
