SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For the second time in as many meets this season, Missouri S&T's cross country team had to compete in inclement conditions at the Richard Clark Invitational at Missouri State University. The Miners finished in fourth place among the eight teams in competition, while the Lady Miners placed ninth among the 10 teams in the women's five-kilometer race.
The men's team got their highest finish from
Jacob Tayloe (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) in the eight-kilometer men's race, as he came in 16
th place overall with a time of 26:36 on a soggy course caused by heavy morning rainfall in southwest Missouri.
Aaron Viets (Excelsior Springs, Mo./Lutheran HS) came in 19
th place in 26:40, while
Kyle Stocker (Solon, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) was the third Miner across the finish line in 26:45.
Danny Deposki (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) finished in 39
th place in 27:16 and
Justin Brown (Independence, Mo./Truman) in 42
nd in 27:20 to round out the top five for S&T. The Miners' next two finishers were
Wynn McClellan (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame) in 45
th place in 27:24 and
Chris Marchman (Sheridan, Ark./Sheridan) in 48
th place in 27:29.
Wichita State won the team competition with five runners in the top seven overall. UMKC and Drury also finished ahead of Missouri S&T, who ended the meet with a score of 120.
The top runner Saturday for the Lady Miners was
Alyson Smith (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah), who posted a time of 20:04 to finish in 31
st place overall.
Mindy Lake (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa) came in 39
th place in 20:32 and
Allie Wood (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) was 55
th with a time of 21:23, one spot ahead of
Rachel Feist (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) who had a time of 21:26.
S&T's fifth runner was
Diane Strong (Jackson, Mo./Jackson), who ran the course in 21:51 to finish in 63
rd place. The Lady Miners' last two runners were
Madalyn Elliott (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy), who ran a 22:02 and
Elizabeth Hinck (Cedarburg, Wis./Living Word Lutheran), who had a mark of 22:33.
Wichita State also won the women's race with 29 points.
Missouri S&T's next competition will come in its home meet, the Jackling Jocks Invitational, which will take place Oct. 6 at the S&T Golf Course.
