Box Score QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team opened its season playing in a heavy rainstorm and ended up playing to a
scoreless tie with Lindenwood University Saturday night at the Quincy Soccer Bowl.
The tightly contested game saw a differential of just one shot between the two teams, as the Lions had a 14-13 edge in that department. Lindenwood held an 11-8 advantage through regulation time, but the Miners had five shots to the Lions' three in the 20 minutes of overtime.
However, none of those attempts got past the two goalkeepers, S&T's
Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) and Lindenwood's Fermin Hughes. Jackson made one of his three saves in the final minute of the second overtime to preserve the shutout, moments after S&T's
Jervis Atagana (Columbia, Mo./Hickman ) had a chance to win the game stopped by Hughes.
Peter Vaccaro (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) had four of the 13 shots taken in the game by the Miners, who will face Truman State Sunday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs dropped a 2-0 decision to Quincy Saturday night.
