Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the fifth consecutive game, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team kept its opponent from scoring an offensive goal, but was unable to get one in the net itself Sunday as it wound up playing to a
scoreless tie with Bellarmine University in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Miners have not allowed an opposing goal by an offense since Sept. 21 at Quincy, with the only goal allowed being an own goal by Missouri-St. Louis in overtime four games ago. The Miners picked up their third straight shutout in Sunday's contest and fourth in their last five games.
S&T had its first good scoring chance late in the first half as
Diego Robayo (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish) had a shot stopped after a corner kick, while in the second half,
Ben Bartnicke (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) got a shot on net that was stopped by Bellarmine goalkeeper Blake Hunter.
Late in the second overtime period, the Miners nearly won the game when
Jervis Atagana (Columbia, Mo./Hickman )'s shot after a corner kick went off the crossbar.
Matt Jackson (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) stopped six shots in goal for S&T to pick up his fifth shutout of the year, as the Knights outshot the Miners 19-11.
Peter Vaccaro (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) had two of the Miners' 11 shots in the contest.
The Miners, 6-4-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the GLVC, will host Kentucky Wesleyan Friday at 7:30 p.m.
