ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T will look to bounce back from its first loss of the 2012 season Saturday when it travels to Wilberforce, Ohio, to take on Central State University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Eastern time.
After winning four consecutive games to start the year, the Miners were knocked off by a count of 54-35 Saturday by the GLVC's pre-season favorite, Indianapolis, at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Missouri S&T quarterback
Josh Firm (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) threw for 322 yards –his fourth straight outing with at least 300 yards passing – but three turnovers helped doom the Miners as they fell to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in GLVC play.
The Miners' opponent on Saturday, Central State, was tabbed to finish in a tie for last place by the league coaches in the pre-season poll, but enter the contest with the same 2-1 record that the Miners hold; the Marauders are 2-3 overall. Central State got a huge game from quarterback Michael Wilson, the GLVC's “Offensive Player of the Week” in its 23-21 win last week at William Jewell, as Wilson accounted for 493 yards of total offense in the victory.
