ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T will be looking to lock up its second straight winning season Saturday as it plays host to William Jewell College for Homecoming at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Saturday's contest, the first afternoon home game for the Miners this season, will get underway at 1 p.m.
Pregame activities outside the stadium will include the alumni tailgate party from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and a classic car show that will take place in the parking lot beginning at 10:30 a.m. Spirit towels will also be given out at the entrance to the stadium while supplies last.
The Miners improved to 5-1 on the year and are in second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference at 3-1 after their 27-21 win last week at Central State. Running back
Scott Hendricks (Kechi, Kan./Maize HS) rushed for a career-high 131 yards and quarterback
Josh Firm (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill), who has thrown for a league-high 17 touchdowns on the season, had three scoring passes in the win.
S&T's defense recorded five sacks – three by defensive tackle
Eddie Rascon (Canutillo, Texas/Canutillo), which earned him one of the weekly defensive awards from the Beyond Sports, LLC – and comes into Saturday's game ranked fourth in NCAA Division II in sacks with four per game. On an individual basis, Rascon is tied for fifth in the nation with 10 sacks over the first six games.
William Jewell comes into Saturday's game at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC; the Cardinals have lost their last two contests, including a 35-20 loss at McKendree last week. Quarterback Sean Shelton has completed 64.3 percent of his passes on the season for 1,389 yards and 15 touchdowns, while wide receiver Jon Molzen leads the GLVC in receiving yards with 704 on his 48 receptions.
