LAWRENCE, Kan. – David Huskisson (Kirksville, Mo./Kirksville) recorded a 10th place finish Saturday to highlight Missouri S&T's third place finish overall at the Bob Timmons Invitational at the University of Kansas to get the Miners' 2011 season underway.
Huskisson, a junior from Kirksville, Mo., completed the six-kilometer race in a time of 20:05.4 and was one of three Miners to finish in the top 20 overall. Wynn McClellan (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame) posted a time of 20:29.5 to finish in 18th place, while Jacob Tayloe (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) was right behind McClellan in 19th in 20:32.8.
The Miners' top five was rounded out by Aaron Viets (Excelsior Springs, Mo./Lutheran HS) in 22nd place in a time of 20:43.4 and Daniel Deposki finished 26th in 20:58.7. Chris Marchman (Sheridan, Ark./Sheridan) came in 31st place in 21:11.7 and Robert Naeger (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Valle Catholic) was 33rd in 21:13.9 in the race that featured 58 runners.
Kansas had five of the top eight finishers in the race to win the meet, while Oklahoma Baptist finished second by a 13-point margin. The Miners finished well ahead of Oral Roberts for third place.
S&T will compete Sept. 17 at the Southern Stampede at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
