KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team saw its season come to a close Saturday night in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, as No. 10-ranked Rockhurst handed the Miners a 3-0 setback.

The Hawks, who entered the tournament as the top seed, broke on top at the 25:26 mark when Mark Magee hit a shot from about 17 yards away into the left corner past S&T goalkeeper Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ).   That came moments after Jordan England (Midlothian, Texas/Midlothian HS) had been turned away by Hawk goalkeeper Ryan Bass on a head ball attempt.

After the Miners had a couple of scoring chances to tie the game blocked by the Rockhurst defense, the Hawks added to their lead with 3:11 remaining in the half when Michael McDonald hit a shot from 14 yards away over McNamee's head.

From that point, the Miners were unable to solve the Hawks' defense, which came into the contest having allowed only five goals all season.  S&T had only two shots in the second half of the contest and six for the game against Rockhurst's 15.

The Hawks got their third goal of the evening with just under 30 minutes to play when Lucas DeRossi hit a shot from 15 yards away into the upper right corner.

McNamee, one of six seniors playing their final game for Missouri S&T, was credited with three saves.

Missouri S&T finished the 2011 season with a record of 10-6-2.  Saturday's loss was the first this season in four games to a nationally ranked team.
