Miners fall in non-conference tilt at Columbia College

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri S&T stepped outside the Great Lakes Valley Conference for a night prior to opening play this weekend in the GLVC Tournament and ended up on the short end of a 2-0 result Tuesday at Columbia College.
The Cougars (10-5-1) handed the Miners only their second loss in their last 10 games on the day when S&T moved into the national rankings at No. 25. Columbia College scored a goal in each half to pick up the win, breaking on top at the 23:12 mark on a goal by Edgar Reyna.
Columbia also got a tally in the second half from Trey Bristow.
The Cougars outshot the Miners 27-13 in the contest, with Miner goalkeeper Donny Gesell (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) being credited with eight saves on the night.
Missouri S&T (9-4-3), the No. 3 seed in the GLVC Tournament, will open play in the conference's post-season event Sunday when it faces Bellarmine in a noon game at the S&T Soccer Field.
