QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team opened a challenging weekend road swing on a down note Friday, dropping a
2-0 decision at Quincy University.
The Hawks, who knocked off nationally-ranked Rockhurst – whom the Miners will face Sunday in Kansas City – last week, scored a goal in each half to hand S&T its first loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Jake Pittroff scored the first half goal in unassisted fashion at the 25:46 mark, then Jayme Groark added a goal nearly 15 minutes into the second half for the Hawks (3-3-1, 2-1 GLVC).
The Miners outshot the Hawks 13-12 for the game, but couldn't get one past goalkeeper Kyle Dillman.
Peter Haw (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) led the Miners with three shots on the night.
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) and
Donny Gesell (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) shared the goalkeeping duties for the Miners (2-2-1, 2-1-1 GLVC) and combined for three saves.
