ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Missouri S&T's quest to make the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament field in men's soccer got a big boost Sunday, as
Zack Hay (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo)'s goal late in the second half gave the Miners a
1-0 win at Missouri-St. Louis.
Hay broke the scoreless tie in a tightly-contested game when he got to a rebound and put a shot past UMSL goalkeeper Mike Bober with 7:48 to play. The Miner defense finished off the win by preserving
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney )'s fifth shutout of the season.
The Tritons had the advantage in shots for the game by an 8-7 margin, while the Miners had eight corner kicks to UMSL's seven. The Miners had three shots on goal and McNamee was credited with two saves.
The win moves the Miners to 6-4-2 overall and 4-1-2 in GLVC play; they moved into a virtual tie for fourth place with Drury in the league standings with five games remaining, three of which are against teams among the top five in the conference.
