In a contest between two teams coming off dramatic wins Friday, Missouri S&T and Saint Joseph's played to a
1-1 tie in overtime Sunday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at the S&T Soccer Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Pumas drew first blood 6:26 into the second half. Miner goalkeeper
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) stopped an initial shot by Puma forward Bojan Adler, but Tyler Kincaid got to the rebound just outside the box and sent a bad angle shot on goal that went off McNamee's hands and in.
However, the Miners were able to draw even a little over three minutes later on a set piece, as
Andy Held (Alton, Ill./Alton) got to
Brandon Moore (Rolla, Mo./Rolla)'s free kick and headed the ball past Alex Makin at the 54:53 mark.
The teams stayed tied through the rest of regulation time, then both teams had golden opportunities to win the game in the opening moments of overtime. S&T's
Afif Najjar (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) had an open look at the goal but was turned away by Makin, then Kincaid had a shot go off the far post moments later.
The Pumas (3-5-3, 1-2-2 GLVC) outshot the Miners 22-12 in the contest, with McNamee finishing with five saves for S&T (4-4-2, 3-1-2 GLVC). Makin made eight saves for the Pumas.
