11/19/2008 12:49:28 PM

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Missouri S&T was the last team to beat Northern Kentucky in a regular season game in men's soccer, but wasn't able to complete the bookend of the winning streak as the Norse came away with a 3-1 win over S&T Sunday afternoon.

Steven Beattie broke a one-all tie with a goal 14 minutes into the second half and the Norse, ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Division II poll, added a second goal later in the period to come away with their 29th straight regular season win since the Miners won at NKU in 2006.

The Norse got on the scoreboard first at the 19:09 mark on a goal by Mike Jonca, but the Miners tied the score a little over four minutes later when Nick Mentesana (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newton) took a pass from Garrett Stevens (Richland, Wash./Richland) and put a shot by goalkeeper Michael Lavric.

NKU outshot the Miners 23-6 in the game with S&T not being credited with a shot in the second half. Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) had eight saves in goal for the Miners, who fell to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLVC.
