The Missouri S&T men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon with its second straight shutout victory, a
3-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at the S&T Soccer Field.
The Miners (3-3, 2-0 GLVC) got the only goal they needed at the 21:23 mark of the first half, as
Garrett Stevens (Richland, Wash./Richland) put home a rebound after Panther goalkeeper Ryan Samuels had stopped
Brandon Moore (Rolla, Mo./Rolla)'s initial shot.
S&T's defense held firm against a barrage of scoring attempts by the Panthers after getting the lead, but a majority of the 20 KWC shots never made it on goal. Miner goalkeeper
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) finished with six saves for the day.
A physical second half eventually led to the Miners' last two goals that came on penalty kicks.
Mario Calderon (Mexico City, Mexico/ITESM) converted both of them, the first at 76:55 and the second just over six minutes later.
The Miners had a 25-20 advantage in shots, with a 13-6 edge in shots on goal.
